Legislature eyes closing five state parks including Edge of the Cedars, Green River Golf Course

A legislative audit report released last Tuesday urged Utah lawmakers to consider closing five of the state’s least profitable state parks, including two in San Juan and Emery counties.The Office of the Legislative Auditor General in its report called Edge of the Cedars in Blanding, Green River Golf Course and three other parks “a financial burden on the state” because of the parks’ historically low visitor numbers and heavy reliance on taxpayer subsidies.

The report recommended that legislators permanently close the parks or transfer control of them to the municipalities in which they are located.
